Hippolyte et Aricie ou la belle-mère amoureuse
This parody of Rameau’s opera Hippolyte et Aricie by Charles-Simon Favart is a joint production by Teatru Manoel and Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles that marks the 250th anniversary of Jean Philippe Rameau’s death.
Beautiful puppets constructed, manipulated and dressed as they were at the time, within a beautiful puppet theatre revive the spirit of the French opera. Two singers interact with the puppets playing comic and poetic parts in this "play within a play”. The innovative production has elements of burlesque but also takes a philosophical look at French eighteenth-century society
